E-E: The final form of a work of art is not predetermined. But whenever a work of art has been completed and observers see it with their eyes, it is predetermined from the very outset that it will be intelligible to them; if not immediately, then in time, within a minute, a year, or a decade. If a work of art is created it means that its intelligibility is predetermined. We can also say that its creation is made possible by its potential intelligibility. In other words, it will inevitably be understood, sooner or later. Thus every action that arises from art will always be rooted in the classical approach, meaning that any art work is specifically created so as to be intelligible at some point in time.

Beyond this classical approach, the truly new direction in art is that which evolves within the person who is at one and the same time creating it. To understand this art in terms of all its implications, a certain inner freedom is required, a freedom which also needs to be present in terms of external factors. What is essential is that the person feel and see those forces within him or herself that are helping to create this new work within the inner realm. If one feels these forces, and is aware of and can see them – if this world comes into being within oneself, then regardless of what one creates, the same will be intelligible and indispensable to everyone else. For what transpires within to allow this art to develop internally exists only to lend visual form to the given information. It thus becomes impossible to deny it its visual existence. The artist’s task is to give it visual form

H: But the observer cannot get to ‘the art of the future’. For him, a picture remains just a picture, doesn’t it?

E-E: The time will come when the doors will open within the human being, within the observer, within his or her brain or soul; that is to say, within the inner being of every person, and then the observer himself will become an artist. As a rule, while looking at the works of the masters, both old and new, the observer feels a distinct borderline: here is the artist, and here am I, the observer.

In the future, this borderline will disappear, and everyone will become an artist. It is only a question of time. A moment will come when the forces that provide human beings with inner information will develop people’s abilities and their consciousness to such an extent that every person will become an artist and will create ‘the art of the future’ within him or herself. It will happen to everyone. It will come completely naturally to people – in the same way that today writing comes naturally to everyone, and in the same way that some people have a natural ability to paint.

H: Is that to say everybody will feel a need to express it?

E-E: Yes, this will become a part of life, and it will be natural.

H: But this world is not expressed through painting alone.

E-E: Yes, not through painting alone: through any form - it makes no difference.

H: Merely through, say, an action.

E-E: Yes, it may be so, of course. People can’t get by without doing something with their hands, and will always find ways of expressing what they are thinking. Engaging in activity comes to human beings as naturally as living; people can't just wake up, sit down and think. Humans need to actualise their thoughts in some way.

H: What do you mean by ‘actualise’?

E-E: Well, writing things down, for example, speaking out or singing out; actually doing something with what is there.

H: With that which happens inside?

E-E: Yes. Some part of humanity will actualise what is within in a visual form, for other people. And then the moment will come when it becomes unnecessary to actualise anything visually. It will become possible for people to transmit everything to each other internally. This will be the next leap in the development of human civilization. Communication will occur at the inner level.

H: Without any external forms.

E-E: Yes, without any external forms. But external forms of expression will remain until human beings lose their outward form, their body, their eyes, their hands …. Eventually, human beings will transpose into the next energy form; we will no longer have a shell. But when this is going to happen is still a mystery.

H: There is another important question. At the moment it is only you and perhaps, a few others who perceive this ‘art of the future’ within themselves. How will ‘the art of the future’ be transmitted from one person to another? Might you wish to talk about it now so that it will be understood when it occurs in everybody? What do you think?
